Life on the Farm
When Pet Center began in 1975 we specialized in importing exotic animals for zoos, breeders, pet shops and genetic food animals. Because of our international experience and reputation, we were given the privilege of handling the first and largest exportation of alpacas from South America in 1984. We held them on our farm in Southern California specifically for breeding, selling only the offspring or crias. Thus we are one of the few breeders in the United States who have been in the alpaca business from the very beginning. In 1995 Pet Center participated in the first import of suri alpacas into the United States from Bolivia, and in 1996, began Suri imports from Peru. We have "hands-on" experience with the very best quality alpacas from South America. and we have made frequent trips to Peru to select the finest available animals for our herd. Not only have we been at the forefront of the import of alpacas to the United States, we have, also, been involved in alpaca imports to New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Few other farms have our experience and knowledge with fine Peruvian bloodlines. We have selected quality males from each group of imported animals to genetically improve our herd. Today we have more than 200 alpacas, all in Southern California where we first started breeding in 1984.
We are a no-frills kind of organization. We don't have beautiful vistas for you to enjoy when you visit us, no picturesque old barns or vacation-like atmosphere. We simply offer the finest alpacas you can buy in the US and a wealth of knowledge and experience you just won't find anywhere else. We also believe in selling alpacas at reasonable prices. That's our philosophy: Quality alpacas for reasonable prices". We are also proud of the superior support we offer our customers before and after the sale. No high pressure sales andno fancy trappings – our history and our animals speak for themselves.
